Saint John the Beloved Academy will be closed for the remainder of the school year. However, our students are completing the school year with our at home learning curriculum.

Dear Parents and Friends,

As you all know, the circumstances surrounding COVID-19 continue to rapidly change.

Since our last update on Friday, March 13, we have received additional instructions from the Office of Catholic Schools regarding school closing procedures beyond Governor Northam’s precautionary action to close K-12 schools in Virginia beginning March 16 through at least March 27.

Please note that for the sake of simplicity and communication we WILL follow FCPS with respect to closures past Friday, March 27.

At this point we are planning to observe Easter and Easter vacation as planned.  We will continue to give updates during this fluid situation.

We have been actively working on plans and strategies. We will begin at-home projects and lessons beginning tomorrow.  Your student’s homeroom teacher will be sending you an email to touch base by this evening with simplified lesson plans for Tuesday, March 17 and Wednesday, March 18. Shortly after that you will receive a Smore communication from your child’s teacher with a comprehensive and integrated lesson plan for Thursday, March 19-Friday, March 27. You will then receive similar weekly updates regarding lesson plans as long as needed.

Currently our school building is closed, we will give an update regarding potential times to do “curbside pick-ups” of materials if possible and needed. Faculty have been instructed to be prepared to have the ability to share all materials with you electronically if necessary.

Additionally, all extracurricular activities and school events have been canceled from March 16-March 27 including the Art & Culture event, A Jazz Happy Hour, on Thursday, March 19.

With thoughts and prayers for all those directly and indirectly affected by this virus, and for the grace to handle these challenges with cheerfulness and hope,

Jeff

Dear Parents and Friends,

I wanted to give a quick update tonight regarding COVID-19 and Governor Northam’s precautionary action to close K-12 schools in Virginia beginning March 16 at least through March 27.

In correspondence with the Governor’s actions, Catholic schools of the Arlington Diocese will be closed during that time. We will provide updates as we go forward.

SJBA faculty met this afternoon and we will have Monday’s faculty workshop as planned. Soon following Monday’s meetings and preparations, we will send comprehensive and integrated lesson plans by grade. You will receive a communication with all of your child’s respective grade assignments, instructions, and activities on one form.

We will also notify parents and students regarding windows of time when they can pick up any necessary materials at the school. We will seek to keep this as effective, simple, and engaging as possible. More information to follow regarding those plans.

I know we will continue to keep those affected by this virus in our prayers, and that we will continue to strive to transform these challenges into opportunities for growth and renewal–on many levels.

Kind regards,

Jeff
